What a Queensland Plumbing Licence Covers

Queensland requires an occupational licence for anyone doing plumbing and drainage work, plus a separate contractor licence for the business that takes the job on, and the QBCC issues both. The occupational licence proves the holder has the skills. The contractor licence proves the business behind them has the financial capacity and training to run jobs properly.

Three classes matter to a householder:

  1. Plumber

covers plumbing work above ground, beyond jobs that need a separate endorsement.

  2. Drainer

covers drainage work below ground level, except work carrying its own endorsement.

  3. Gasfitter

gas work sits on its own licence, covering fitting, changing, repairing, servicing, testing and signing off on a gas system and its pipework. Queensland lets only a licensed gasfitter touch gas work, and you can request a look at the licence before gas work starts.

Regulated jobs fall into three buckets: permit jobs, notifiable jobs and minor jobs, and all three require a licensed plumber or drainer. The QBCC says using a licensed tradesperson for regulated work protects the house, your health and your rights under the law.

Paperwork and Inspections After a Job

Two bodies share the checking: the QBCC licenses plumbers and records notifiable work, while your local council processes applications, issues permits and inspects. Here that council is the City of Brisbane.

The papers you should end up holding:

  1. Form 4

after notifiable work, the owner or the person who engaged the plumber receives a copy. If one never arrives, the QBCC can supply it.

  2. Gas system compliance certificate

when gas work on a new installation or alteration finishes, the gasfitter hands it over straight away, and files a copy with the gas network within 5 days where the system runs off one.

You can also search the QBCC's online registers yourself. A name search confirms a licence, and searching by address reveals if a Form 4 exists for the property.

How a Plumbing Job Runs From Call to Finish

  1. 1

    You tell us the fault

A call to (07) 3523 7121 or a message through our booking page starts it. Tell us what's wrong and where.

  2. 2

    We diagnose on site

We find the fault at the property, whether that's a worn valve in a 1980s house or a shared-wall leak in a townhouse row, and explain the fix.

  3. 3

    We quote before starting

You'll see a fixed quote before any work starts, with flat-rate pricing and no hidden fees. The work waits for your approval.

  4. 4

We do the work and test it

The job gets done, then tested. Payment is card or EFTPOS on site, or choose Fix now, pay later.

  5. 5

    We hand you the paperwork

Any Form 4 or gas certificate goes to you before we leave.

Questions People Ask

Call (07) 3523 7121

Who inspects plumbing work in a Taigum home?

The City of Brisbane handles permits and inspections here, and you can ask for an inspection of notifiable work at any stage. The QBCC covers licensing and keeps the register. An inspector may attend with the occupier's consent if the council makes contact within 1 year of the notice.

What paperwork do I get after plumbing work in Taigum?

A copy of the Form 4 comes with notifiable work, and gas work ends with a compliance certificate on the spot. The gasfitter also files a copy with the network operator within 5 days when a network feeds the system.

Which suburbs around Taigum does the team work in?

Fitzgibbon, Boondall and Deagon all sit on the run, each with its own page, along with Zillmere. The full catchment is on our Suburbs We Cover page. Ring (07) 3523 7121 from any of them.

Does the team work on units and rentals as well as houses?

Yes, we work for owner-occupiers, landlords, tenants and unit owners alike. The plumbing is the same; who approves it differs. A rental needs the property manager or owner to sign off, and a unit may need body corporate approval for shared-wall work.
